BNP Paribas Open 2011: Caroline Wozniacki wins Indian Wells crown

World number one Caroline Wozniacki completed a spectacular fortnight at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden after winning her 14th career WTA title and arguably the biggest one at the BNP Paribas Open. She defeated France’s Marion Bartoli in three sets 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 in two hours.

After losing her focus in the second set, the top-ranked player regrouped in the third to secure the title.

“In the third set I just kept my head cool. We had a lot of long rallies but I came up with the wins. I thought if she kept playing like she was, then it would just be too good. But I wasn’t going to give her anything,” Wozniacki said.

Wozniacki was a runner-up of this event last year but this time she moved another step forward to hoist the trophy and solidified her hold on the world number one ranking.
