BNP Paribas Open 2011: Mirza, Vesnina claim women’s doubles title

Elena Vesnina and Sania Mirza won the women’s doubles title at the BNP Paribas Open 2011 with a 6-0, 7-5 triumph over eight-seeded due Meghann Shaughnessy and Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States.

The Indian-Russian duo claimed the first set in just 24 minutes but encountered resistance in the second set after the Americans started to show more toughness in their game. Down 1-5 in the second set, the duo then came back to win six straight games to clinch the title.

This served as Mirza’s tenth career doubles title while Vesnina claimed her fourth. This is just only their third team-up in WTA Tour.
