Nadal wins Barcelona Open for the sixth time

After skipping this event last year, Rafael Nadal regained the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell title after beating compatriot David Ferrer 62 64 on Sunday. This is Ferrer’s second consecutive loss against Nadal in the past two weeks. Nadal bested Ferrer at the final of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters 2011 last weekend.

Nadal won this ATP World Tour 500 event for five consecutive years from 2005 to 2009 but had to skip the tournament last year due to a hectic schedule.

“I feel at home here. It’s a very special tournament. It always has been as I grew up watching this tournament. It’s a historical tournament with a great tradition and great champions. It’s more than a dream to win here six times,” Nadal said.

Nadal received additional 500 ranking points to solidify his hold at the ATP world rankings.
