The semifinalists of the 2011 Monte-Carlo Masters have been determined. Earlier on Friday, fans saw Jurgen Melzer upstaging three-time finalist Roger Federer to earn his first-ever ATP 1000 semifinal. Melzer will face off with claycourt specialist David Ferrer.
The other semifinal match that will take place on Saturday, April 16 is between world number one and six-time defending Monte-Carlo Masters titlist Rafael Nadal vs Andy Murray, the world number four from Great Britain. Nadal defeated Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia in straight sets. Murray beat Frederico Gil of Portugal – also in straight sets.
As for their head-to-head series record, Nadal has the upper hand with 9-4. In their past 13 encounters, they’ve only played twice on claycourts with Nadal winning those matches. One could say that Nadal will easily beat Murray in this match but the latter is not about to be underestimated.
