Wimbledon 2011 Prize Money Up by 6.4%, singles champs to receive $1.8 million each

The Wimbledon 2011 singles champions will each receive a record £1.1 million or $1.8 million. The All England Club have increased the prize money at The Championships with the total cash prize up by 6.4 percent compared to the 2010 Wimbledon.

All England Club and the The Championships chairman Philip Brook said: “Leading international sports events such as Wimbledon are all about the quality of the players on show. In the competitive world of top-level sport, it is important we offer prize money which suitably rewards the players for the box-office appeal they bring to the event and for their supreme performances on court.”

The new number 3 and 4 courts will be unveiled this year in Wimbledon which increases overall capacity from 37,500 to 38,500.

Court three will be equipped with the Hawkeye technology, the fourth court on the complex to have this technology.

Wimbledon 2011 takes place this June.
