Del Potro continues impressive comeback, wins Estoril Open

Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro continued his impressive comeback at the ATP Tour by winning his ninth career title at the Estoril Open. The US Open 2009 champion beat second-seed Fernando Verdasco 6-2, 6-2 to earn his third claycourt title.

“Finals are difficult to play, you never know if you will play your best tennis or not. Today, I won and I played really nice tennis. Everything was perfect,” Del Potro said.

The Argentine has won 23 out of his last 26 matches. This impressive record saw his ranking rise from 484 to 46 prior to this tournament.

“I am playing better day-by-day, tournament-by-tournament. That is why I am working. I want to be ready for the second part of the year,” he said.
