French Open 2011: Andy Murray pulls out of exhibition event as precaution

World number four Andy Murray has pulled out of an exhibition claycourt event this week as a precaution so that he’ll be fit enough to compete at the 2011 Roland Garros which starts on Sunday, May 22.

According to reports, the 24-year old Scot pulled out of the Masters Guinot Mary Cohr event which takes place annually at Paris Country Club. He was scheduled to play against Michael Llodra on Thursday but had to withdraw after experiencing pain during practice sessions in the morning.

Murray has become a major contender for this year’s Roland Garros after making it to the semifinals of two Masters 1000 claycourt events (Monte Carlo and Rome). He lost those matches narrowly against world number one Rafael Nadal and number two Novak Djokovic respectively.

His best French Open result was in 2009 where he reached the quarterfinals.
