Germany ousts defending champ Argentina to win fifth World Team Cup

For a record fifth time, Team Germany won the prestigious ATP World Team Cup after beating defending champion Argentina on Saturday.

The World Team Cup event, held annually in the German city of Dusseldorf, has been attended by ATP stars representing their home countries – similar to the Davis Cup.

Germany’s Florian Mayer defeated Juan Monaco in straight sets for the first match to put his team ahead in the standings. However, Argentina evened things out when Juan Ignacio Chela defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets as well.

The decider came to the doubles match with Kohlschreiber teaming up with Philipp Petzschner to beat the Argentinian duo composed of Chela and Maximo Gonzalez 6-3, 7-6.

Germany became the first five-time winner of this event while Argentina remains a four-time winner.
