Germany’s Andrea Petkovic wins Internationaux de Strasbourg

Andrea Petkovic of Germany won her second career WTA title after winning the Internationaux de Strasbourg tournament on Saturday after beating Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli via retirement in the final match. Bartoli retired in the second set due to a left thigh injury after trailing 4-6, 0-1.

“It’s always a strange feeling when someone retires because you feel happy and sad at the same time,” Petkovic said.

“I’m happy to win the title and the points – we’re all in a rush for points during the year! But I was sad to end there because I was playing really well. I also feel sad for Marion – I really like her, she’s a really nice girl. I had a bad injury in 2008 so I know how it feels,” she added.

By winning the title, Petkovic’s ranking will rise to number 12 while Bartoli remains at number 11 when the new data is released on Monday.
