James Blake continues comeback with Challenger title win

With the Roland Garros 2011 tournament only just a few weeks away, former world number four James Blake is attempting to make the qualifying cut to this prestigious claycourt Slam. His chances were boosted after winning the USTA Sarasota Challenger title last weekend, the first title win of any kind for the American for the past two years.

Blake defeated Alex Bogomolov, Jr. in straight sets to win the title. The 31-year old tennis star had been hampered with injuries the past few years which led to a slump in his ranking.

“It’s been a long while, and it’s a relief. I was telling my friends I wonder if I remembered how to win a title,” Blake was quoted as saying.

“Luckily, I did and played some of my best tennis all week today. I am happy about it and seeing if I can go forward and keep this up, and the way I felt today I think I can,” he added.

With the win, Blake’s ranking rose to 109. He may also have the chance to get a slot at the Wimbledon 2011 tournament if he continues to improve in his ranking in the next few weeks.
