Medina Garrigues wins Estoril Open title

After losing ten opening round matches in a row, Spain’s Anabel Medina Garrigues made a remarkable comeback at the start of the claycourt season, winning her 10th career title at the Estoril Open. She beat Kristina Barrois 6-1, 6-2.
Due to her aforementioned losing streak, Garrigues’ ranking slipped to as low as 92 but her title win on Sunday guarantees her return to the world’s top 50.

“I played very aggressively and hit it high and deep. Kristina couldn’t do her game,” Medina Garrigues said.
“She’s a creative girl – serve and volley, slice, drop shots – and I was there. I felt like she lost her concentration a little bit,” she added.

Aside from winning the cash prize, Garrigues’ also received a watch from Omega, the tournament’s sponsor.
In doubles, Alisa Kleybanova and Galina Voskoboeva beat Michaella Krajicek and Eleni Daniilidou to win their first title as a team.
