Mutua Madrid Open 2011: Roger Federer believes Djokovic has great shot to clinch top ranking

Swiss tennis star Roger Federer believes that Serbian player Novak Djokovic has a great chance to clinch the number one ranking for this first time, adding that the new world number 2 already had a lot of opportunities to do so in the past few years.

“I think Novak has made good progress since the U.S. Open,” Federer said.

“He had the chance to win and lost to Nadal, but he reacted well. He has taken his chances and he was able to beat me the last three times. He has many opportunities to be No. 1. He had them before and didn’t take them. Now he has more because he is playing very well,” he added.

Federer, currently ranked number three, is at this week’s Mutua Madrid Open. He was the tournament runner-up last year, losing to rival Rafael Nadal.
