Nicolas Almagro wins Open de Nice 2011 title

World number 12 Nicolas Almagro won his third title of the 2011 season after beating Romanian Victor Hanescu 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 in the final of the Open de Nice Côte d’Azur tournament. The win also made the claycourt specialist a strong contender for the Roland Garros 2011 tournament, which begins on Sunday.

“I think I’m ready for Roland Garros. I want to rest a little bit now, tomorrow I want to practise, and we’ll see what happens on Tuesday. It’s the most important clay-court tournament of the year and I go with a lot of confidence in my tennis and we’ll see what I can do in Paris,” Almagro said after the match.

The Spaniard broke the world’s top ten for the first time in his career last month after he went on a thirteen-match winning streak last February where he won his first two titles of the season

Almagro received € 72,600 plus 250 ranking points for the win. He’s the 11th seed at the Roland Garros 2011 tournament. His best results came in 2008 and 2010 where he reached the quarterfinals.
