No American in WTA, ATP Top 10 starting May 9, 2011

For the first time, there won’t be any American tennis players on the world’s top 10 once the updated ATP and WTA Tour rankings are released on Monday, May 9.

This week, only 13-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams remained in the top 10 but due to inactivity because of injuries, her ranking will drop next week.

The last time there were no female American player in the elite 10 was May 20, 2007. For men, it was in August 2010 (first time). The highest ranked American male tennis players are Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish and both their rankings will hover between 11 to 13 next week.
