Roland Garros 2011: Caroline Wozniacki exits in third round, dismisses doubts

World number one Caroline Wozniacki will have to wait until Wimbledon 2011 to have another shot in getting her first career Grand Slam title after she was beaten at the Roland Garros 2011 third round by 28th seed Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia.

The top seed’s early exit came a day after world number two Kim Clijsters was bundled out of the tournament by 114th-ranked Arantxa Rus. This marked the first time that the top two seeds were eliminated prior to the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament.

Wozniacki entered the French Open 2011 tournament with four titles under her belt, including her win at a premier claycourt tournament in Brussels. However her opponent, a former top five player, was not intimidated with the credentials.

The 20-year old Danish tennis star said she does not care what others think about her capabilities.

“For me, I know what I’m capable of. I know I’m a great player. I’m doing well, and, you know, I had a loss today. That’s what happens. I’ll be back even better,” Wozniacki said.

Hantuchova will play against 2009 Roland Garros champion Svetlana Kuznetsova in the fourth round.
