Roland Garros 2011: Kim Clijsters to compete at French Open

World number two Kim Clijsters confimed that she will compete at Roland Garros 2011, the second Grand Slam event of the season which takes place in Paris, France. Qualifying matches are currently underway while main draw matches will begin on Sunday, May 22.

The Belgian was unsure about taking part at the French Open 2011 tournament after suffering an ankle injury at her cousin’s wedding last month.

The Australian Open 2011 champion said: “Playing is going wonderfully. I am hitting the ball very well.”

“Increasingly I am going for it. I am not totally without pain, but the strong tape round my ankle gives me sufficient security. The advantage is that I still have the spirit of the past Grand Slam tournaments. If I play well, I can win. Attitude is very important, even though the situation is physically very different,” she added.

Kim Clijsters is a two-time French Open runner-up.
