Roland Garros 2011: Maria Sharapova advances to French Open fourth round

Seventh-seeded Maria Sharapova has reached the Roland Garros 2011 fourth round after beating Taiwan’s Yung-Jan Chan in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.

The Russian former world number one was never threatened with her opponent during the match staged at the Center Court on Saturday.

The three-time Grand Slam champion’s chances of winning the Roland Garros 2011 tournament has increased following the early exit of Kim Clijsters who was in her draw. The French Open is the only Grand Slam that she’s yet to win. She won the Wimbledon title in 2004, US Open in 2006 and Australian Open in 2008.

Her next opponent is 12th-seeed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland.
