Venus, Serena still mum on French Open 2011 return

The women’s tour is missing two of the most popular tennis players – Serena Williams and Venus Williams – and their return to the tennis courts still remain uncertain.

The multiple Grand Slam champions have not confirmed whether they will take part at the next Grand Slam tournament of the season – Roland Garros 2011 which takes place later this month.

“The French Open is a great tournament. It’s a fun event. We definitely want to be there. We’re taking it week to week right now,” Venus Williams said in a recent interview.

The sisters were seen at the Southest Tennis and Learning Center in Washington on Thursday where they served as instructors to thousands of young tennis hopefuls.

Serena Williams has not played a match since winning the Wimbledon 2010 title in July and her comeback this year was delayed after she suffered pulmonary embolism which needed surgery on February. Despite the inactivity at the WTA Tour, Serena Williams’ world ranking is at number 10. Venus Williams, who last played at the Australian Open 2011, is currently ranked 16th.
