Will Federer ever recapture top form?

Roger Federer has already written himself into the history books in the world of tennis, there’s no doubt about that. As well as being a fine and modest man who has managed to keep his feet firmly on the ground despite the talent and considerable financial wealth he possesses, he also managed to drag tennis into the 21st century while boosting its popularity at a time during which the profile of the sport seemed to be fading globally.

However, every fairytale has to come to an end at some point, and some tennis experts have been hinting recently that the Federer fairytale is about to wind down after an era of dominance that has seen the Swiss legend win a majestic total of 16 Grand Slam tournaments. Those planning to bet on 2011 Wimbledon certainly won’t rule him out this year, but he seems to be losing some of his spark.

Much of the cause for these accusations lies in the fact that Federer has not reached a final at a Grand Slam since he won the 2010 Australian Open. After slipping to third in the world rankings behind Rafael Nadal, who seems to be physically fitter and stronger than ever before, and Novak Djokovic, a man whose current dominance and form since the start of 2011 has been quite exceptional, will Federer ever be able to work his way to the top of the tennis tree again? Those following the tennis betting certainly want to find an answer to this question.

Although Federer himself insists there is nothing to worry about, with the Swiss player confident of securing an early summer double in the form of the French Open and Wimbledon, not everyone believes that a man who seems to be playing without the air of confidence and composure that made him such a man to fear in years past can brush off a pair of players who appear for all the world to be hungry to capitalise upon Federer’s decline.
