Good news for the fans of 13-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams! The former world number one has confirmed that she will make her return to the women’s tour in next week’s AEGON International 2011 in Eastbourne. This grasscourt tournament will serve as her preparation for her Wimbledon title defense.
The 29-year old tennis superstar has not competed since July of last year after winning the Wimbledon title. She was sidelined by two foot operations last year and for hematoma earlier this year. She started practicing last April and is currently working with a renowned fitness expert to keep her in shape.
“I am so excited to be healthy enough to compete again. These past 12 months have been extremely tough and character building,” Williams said in a statement.
