Novak Djokovic pulls out of AEGON Championships

Following his semifinal loss at the Roland Garros 2011 tournament, world number two Novak Djokovic said in a statement that he won’t be able to compete at the AEGON Championships, scheduled to begin on June 6 at The Queen’s club in London. The Serbian tennis star is said to suffer from patellar tendinitis.

“I am very disappointed that I will not be playing in the AEGON Championships at The Queen’s Club this year. It is a great event, I wish the organisers and the fans a fantastic week of tennis and I hope I will be back next year,” Djokovic said.

AEGO Championships Tournament Director Chris Kermode said that the wish the player the best and hope to see him compete at the grasscourt tournament next year.

Aside from Djokovic, Richard Gasquet and Mardy Fish have withdrawn their participation in the tournament due to injury.

As of presstime, world number on Rafael Nadal, no. 4 Andy Murray, four-time Queen’s Club champion Andy Roddick and 2009 US Open winner Juan Martin del Potro are still slated to compete in this tournament.
