Olympics 2012 Tennis Players to receive ranking points as per ATP, ITF agreement

The participants of the men’s tennis competition at the London 2012 Olympics will receive ranking points depending on what round they’ve reached during the event. This was made possible after the ATP and ITF officials announced that the agreement has been reached on this matter. This will be the fourth consecutive Olympic Games where players get to receive ATP ranking points.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will allow nations to have a maximum of six entrants – four from men’s singles and two from men’s doubles.

The officials revealed that the draws will be determined based on the rankings of June 11, 2010 (Monday).

“The support of the ATP in finalising the agreement has ensured that as many of the top male players as possible are able to compete at the Olympic Tennis Event. This is great news for the event and the players, and we are confident that next year’s tournament will surpass the success of Beijing,” said ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti.

The Olympics 2012 Tennis Competition will take place at the All England Club in Wimbledon from July 28 to August 5.

Here are the ranking points as agreed for Men’s singles competitors:

Gold Medalist: 750

Bronze Medalist: 340
Fourth Placer: 270
Quarterfinalist: 135
