Roland Garros 2011: Czech duo wins French Open Women’s Doubles Title

Unseeded doubles team Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic ended their fairytale run at the French Open 2011 Women’s Doubles event with a title win after beating seventh-seeded Elena Vesnina of Russia and Sania Mirza of India.

“A Grand Slam title is a great, great thing. Not a lot of people have it, so it’s something special,” Hradecka said after the match.

“For me it’s more something I always joked about – one year my friends got me a shelf with ‘This is for Grand Slam trophies’ written on it. I just put it under my bed, like what a silly joke,” Hlavackova revealed during the post-match conference.

“Today I realized I’ll have something to put on it. It’s great. It’s something I will remember and everybody will remember. I wouldn’t exchange it for anything,” she added.

Hlavackova and Hradecka have accumulated four WTA titles in the past. However, in Grand Slam events, they have never went as far as the quarterfinals in their past nine tries.
