Roland Garros 2011 Men’s Singles Semifinal: World’s Top Four players make it to Final Four

It is going to be an epic Friday for tennis fans as the world’s top four ATP players have made it to the final four of the Roland Garros 2011 tournament. There’s definitely a lot in line for these players with only two only progressing to the title match on Sunday.

Semifinal no. 1: Rafael Nadal vs Andy Murray

Rafael Nadal’s number one ranking is on the line. Failing to defend the Roland Garros title means handing the top ranking to number two Novak Djokovic no matter what the latter’s result at the French Open 2011 tournament. Andy Murray is aiming for his first career Grand Slam title after failing three times in the past – including the Australian Open 2011 tournament.

Nadal is going to be the favorite in this semifinal match. He leads their head-to-head series with 10-4.

Semifinal no. 2: Roger Federer vs Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic will clinch the world number one ranking if he wins his semifinal match against Roger Federer. It wouldn’t matter if he wins the Roland Garros final ranking-wise but of course the Serbian is not going to settle if he knows he has the chance to win the claycourt slam title. He gets to become world number one if Rafael Nadal fails to defend the French Open title.

Federer leads their head-to-head series at 13-9. However, Djokovic has beaten Federer three times this year. It is interesting to note that it was Federer who beat Djokovic prior to the Serbian star’s 43-0 run. It was at the semifinals of the ATP World Tour Finals.

Whatever the results are in the upcoming French Open 2011 Men’s Singles Semifinal matches this Friday, the tennis fans will still remember the day where the world’s top four made it to the final four of this prestigious claycourt tournament.
