The 2011 Wimbledon Novak Djokovic vs Jo-Wilfried Tsonga Men’s Semifinal Match is scheduled on Friday, July 1 and
will take place at the Centre Court. Tsonga of France made the tennis headlines on Wednesday after eliminating six-time champion Roger Federer in the quarterfinals. The 12th-seeded player has already reached a Grand Slam final in the past – at the 2008 Australian Open. His opponent at that match was none other than Novak Djokovic who happens to be his semifinal opponent on Friday. Djokovic overcame a tough challenge from Australian qualifier Bernard Tomic to reach the final four. The Serbian world number two was also a semifinalist last year.
With only less than fifty ranking points difference between him and current top-ranked Rafael Nadal, Djokovic is assured to overtake the Spaniard if he reaches the Wimbledon final for the first time in his career. However, should Nadal fail to defend the Wimbledon title, Djokovic will still become world no. 1. Surprisingly, Tsonga has the lead in their head-to-head series 5-2. However, all of these past seven matches were contested on hardcourts.
