Wimbledon 2011: Li Na returns to China after second round loss

Roland Garros 2011 champion Li Na returned to her home city of Wuhan in China following her shock 2nd round loss at Wimbledon. The world number four said that she will take a much-needed break from tennis.

Li Na lost her match to German wildcard Sabine Lisicki despite having held a matchpoint. She flew back to China with her husband-coach Jiang Shan. Her arrival was warmly welcomed by her mother and several local officials and journalists. This marked her first hometown visit since her French Open win.

“I will go nowhere. I want to stay at home with my family. I like to stay at home,” she was quoted as saying.

China still has a representative in Wimbledon with country’s no. 2 player Peng Shuai reaching the fourth round.

Peng Shuai, seeded 20th at Wimbledon, said that she will do her best.

“I’ve not thought about whether that pressure is now going to come onto me. Everybody (in China) for sure wants us to win, though,” she said.
