Defending and four-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams lost her fourth round match against France’s Marion Bartoli to end her grasscourt campaign this season. Williams missed almost an entire year on tour due to injuries and has progressed impressively in this tournament, albeit having to battle off opponents in three sets.
Bartoli won 6-3, 7-6. Williams saved four match points before Bartoli finally prevailed.
The ninth-seeded Frenchwoman will next face Sabine Lisicki of Germany in the quarterfinals.
