Wimbledon 2011: Novak Djokovic ends Bernard Tomic’s run at quarterfinals

Novak Djokovic reached the Wimbledon semifinals for the third time in his career after overcoming tough challenge from 18-year old Australian qualifier Bernard Tomic in four tight sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 on Wednesday.

Though the pair have never played on tour before, they are practice buddies.

Surprisingly, Djokovic’s opponent in the Wimbledon semifinals is not six-time champion Roger Federer after the latter was ousted by France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the other quarterfinal.

The Djokovic vs Tsonga Wimbledon semifinal match will be a replay of the duo’s Australian Open 2008 final where the Serbian world number two won to clinch his first career Grand Slam title.

If Djokovic reaches the Wimbledon 2011 finals, he is guaranteed to become the new world number one by Monday.
