Wimbledon 2011: Novak Djokovic may leave tournament as world number one

Wimbledon 2011 second-seeded player Novak Djokovic has a big chance of finally clinching the world number one ranking at the grasscourt Slam event provided that he should at least reach the final for the first time.

Current world number one Rafael Nadal is the defending champion and the only way for the Spaniard to retain the top ranking is to win Wimbledon and hope that Djokovic won’t reach the final (Djokovic was a semifinalist last year).

Djokovic, who recorded an impressive 41-0 win this season before his loss at the Roland Garros 2011 semifinals, had the chance to clinch the top ranking in Paris but fell short when Roger Federer stopped him in the semifinals and Rafael Nadal successfully defended the claycourt Slam.

As for Roger Federer, the Swiss star will have a chance to improve his rankings by the end of Wimbledon if he wins the title and Nadal falls before the final. Federer will take the number two ranking if this scenario happens.
