Wimbledon 2011: Roger Federer believes he can still win his 17th Slam

Six-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer still believes that he has what it takes to win his 17th Grand Slam title, stressing that it is the very reason why he’s still competing on tour.

The former world number one was eliminated at the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2011 tournament by France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga despite the Swiss star taking the first two sets.

“I think it’s pretty tough for anybody right now to win Grand Slams,” Federer said.

“But one will win the tournament. The other 120 something players will not. That’s what’s tough in tennis. Knockout systems are pretty rough. But I think I definitely can, yes. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t the case,” he added.
Federer holds the record with the most number of Grand Slam singles titles won among male players with 16. His rival, current top-ranked Rafael Nadal has already collected his 10th Slam title after winning the Roland Garros title last month after beating the Swiss star.

the Swiss star dismissed observations that he’s slipping from the game.

“I thought my game was plenty good enough this year to win the tournament. Unfortunately there’s only one that can win it, and the rest go home empty-handed. But the game is there. I’m happy. I’m healthy. I feel much better than sort of a year ago. That’s very encouraging,” he said.
