Wimbledon Championships 2011 finals to be broadcast on 3D at BBC Network

The BBC’s High Definition channel will broadcast both the men’s and ladies’ singles finals of the 125th edition of the Wimbledon Championships live on 3D – a first of its kind for the network.

For viewers who have 3D television sets, they can watch for free the Wimbledon 2011 men’s and ladies’ singles finals on July 2 and 3 in the aforementioned format.

This was made possible after the All England Club has sealed the deal with Sony Professional and BBC for this venture. Selected cinemas across the United Kingdom will be showing the 3D coverage of the Wimbledon finals as well. Interested individuals can go to www.bbc.co.uk/showsandtours/ for more info.

“We are always looking for ways to improve the presentation of The Championships by successfully blending tradition with innovation. We are delighted that our 3D partnership with the BBC and Sony will guarantee that we remain at the cutting edge of live sports television, as well as delivering a compelling new viewing experience for our global audiences, especially amongst our younger supporters,’ Mick Desmond, Commercial Director of The All England Lawn Tennis Club, said.

“I’m delighted that in this anniversary year we’re bringing UK audiences a new way of getting close to the action on Centre Court. I’m sure that 3D will only add to the drama as the world’s greatest players compete for the championship,” said BBC HD and 3D Head Danielle Nagler.
