2011 Bank of the West Classic: Serena Williams vs Maria Sharapova Stanford QF match set

Despite the inactivity for nearly a year, Serena Williams remains to be a major force on WTA tour. The former world number one reached the quarterfinals of this week’s Bank of the West Classic to set up an interesting match with Maria Sharapova. This will be the battle of the former top-ranked players.

“I’m sure we’ll both go out and do the best each of us can,” Williams said of the upcoming match.

“It’s nothing personal. It’s my job and I want to get paid. I leave it on the court,” she added.
The 2011 Bank of the West Classic is Williams’ third tournament this season. She reached the fourth round of this year’s Wimbledon. By failing to defend the grasscourt Slam title, her ranking crashed out of the world top 100. She gained a wildcard entry in Stanford.
