2011 Rogers Cup: Venus Williams aims to break losing streak

It’s quite surprising to know that seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams is 0-3 at the prestigious Rogers Cup. Data showed that she’d attended this annual WTA event in Canada three times since 1995. She lost in her singles debut that year and went on to lose in the first round in her next two appearances – in 1997 to Nathalie Dechy and 2009 against Kateryna Bondarenko.

Williams is all set to break the losing streak.

“Competition will be tough, there will not be an easy match,” Williams said.
“Nothing is a given and I have to be on my toes the whole time. The good part of it is I love competition, I love a challenge, and that’s why I think I’ve been able to play so long,” she added.

Currently ranked 35th, Williams will face tough competition at the 2011 Rogers Cup, which will be staged in Toronto. The world’s top 25 are expected to participate in this tournament. Younger sister Serena Williams, ranked 172nd in the world, will also participate.
