Can Mardy Fish win the US Open?

Wimbledon has been desperate for a British champion for a long time; the spectators almost seem entitled to seeing a Brit win the tournament. But is the same the case for the other Grand Slam events?

The circumstances are certainly quite different given since Wimbledon hasn’t had a British winner since 1977 in Virginia Wade and you’d have to go all the way back to 1936 to see the last male winner in Fred Perry.

America only has to look back to Serena Williams’ 2008 victory for the women and Andy Roddick in 2003 for the men.
With the US Open approaching, who is America looking towards for their champion? Mardy Fish overtook Andy Roddick to be the highest ranked American on the tour, moving him to 9th. The 2011 US Open tennis betting certainly indicates he is in with a chance of glory.

Fish has five career titles under his belt but has not excelled so far this year, falling at the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the Australian and French Opens respectively. His form has gotten better as the year progresses though, making it to the Quarter Finals of Wimbledon before falling to Rafael Nadal, showing he has the potential to go quite far at the US Open. Those looking at the online tennis betting should remember this.

Flushing Meadows has never brought the best out of Fish, nor have any of the Grand Slams, only making it as far as the Quarter Finals in 2008, one of the 3 Grand Slam Quarter Finals he has ever been in. He has, however, played well on American soil already this year, making it to the Semi Finals of the Miami Masters and with the Cincinnati Masters preceding the US Open, Fish will be hoping to drum up some home support.
