Michael Chang baffled with Andre Agassi’s comments

Former world number two Michael Chang revealed in an interview with Inside Tennis that he was baffled with the comments made by Andre Agassi about his devotion to Christianity. In Agassi’s autobiography titled “Open,” the eight-time Grand Slam champion commented about Chang’s devotion to Christianity.

“I read the excerpts, and it’s hard for me not to shake my head a little bit,” Chang said.

“I wonder if, to some degree, whether some of the stuff he wrote was more or less to sell the book,” he added.
Chang, who won his lone Grand Slam title at the 1989 French Open, said that Agassi did not inform him that he’s included in his book prior to its release when they saw each other an exhibition tournament a week before the book’s release.

“For the most part, I’ve had a good relationship with Andre. It’s just, every now and then, he says some things. I guess we all know to some degree that Andre has said some things that he’s regretted in his career, but it’s always been colorful,” Chang ended.

Chang retired from professional tennis in 2003, amassing 34 titles including the Roland Garros victory. He reached the final of the Australian Open and US Open in 1996. His best result in Wimbledon was a quarterfinal finish in 1994. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2008.
