Russia’s Alisa Kleybanova being treated for cancer

Former top-20 female tennis player Alisa Kleybanova of Russia is currently receiving treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a known form of cancer.

On her 22nd birthday last Friday, Kleybanova announced via the WTA website that she’s getting her treatment at a medical facility in Italy. Her close friends and family are also based there, adding that she’s just “like home.”
The Russian player reached a career high ranking of number 20 last February but her inactivity since May resulted to her ranking dropping to number 28. She started receiving treatment on May.

“I miss seeing fans and friends around the world, I miss hitting the ball, I miss everything. Tennis has been my life for the last 15 years,” Kleybanova wrote.
