Wimbledon 2011: Jurgen Melzer, Iveta Benesova win mixed doubles event

Austrian Jurgen Melzer and Czech Iveta Benesova easily defeated India’s Mahesh Bhupathi and Russia’s Elena Vesnina to reign supreme at the mixed doubles event at the Wimbledon 2011 Championships.

The ninth-seeded duo won 82 percent of their service points and saved both break points they faced during the match. The score 6-3, 6-2 with the match lasting merely 51 minutes.

It was fun. That’s the reason why we ended up playing,” Melzer said.
“For me mixed has to be fun. I think that’s what we did over the last four matches we played. We were smiling on the court. Of course, we wanted to win, but it wouldn’t have been a nightmare or disaster if we would have lost the match. So I think that’s what made us Wimbledon champions in the end,” he added.

This marked Melzer’s second Grand Slam win after winning the doubles title last year at Wimbledon with teammate Philipp Petzschner.
