Wimbledon 2011: Kveta Peschke, Katarina Srebotnik win first career Slam title

Kveta Pesche and Katarina Srebotnik have a lot to celebrate about after winning the Wimbledon 2011 Ladies Doubles title on Saturday. By winning the title, they’ve both achieved their first career Grand Slam title and at the same time clinched the number one doubles ranking at the WTA Tour by Monday.

Both players have come very close to winning their Grand Slam titles in the past, even with other partners but always fells short. Last year, the duo reached the Roland Garros final.

The duo started the Wimbledon 2011 as number two seeds. However the early exit of the top seeds paved way for them to clinch the top ranking by winning the tournament. They did just that, beating surprise finalists Samantha Stosur and Sabine Lisicki 6-3, 6-1.

“Through the whole tournament we really played extremely well. Even though we were down 1-3 in the first set, we believed in this and knew we could win it if we performed the same. We just kept positive,” Srebotnik said.

“And we stuck with it, what we wanted to do the whole time. We never gave up on our strategy at any time. We’re really happy about that,” Peschke added.
