Japan’s Kei Nishikori to participate ATP Kuala Lumpur tourney

Japanese tennis star Kei Nishikori has confirmed his participation in next month’s ATP Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2011 tournament. He also took part in the event last year but lost in the first round.

“It is a wonderful opportunity to be able to welcome a player from Asia to the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur, and especially one who has shown such great maturity and determination,” said Nick Freyer, Tournament Director.
“Kei has incredible talent and it is tremendous for tennis in Asia to be able to see him playing the standard of tennis he has always been capable of,” he added.

The hardcourt event will take place at Putra Stadium at Bukit Jalil from September 24 to October 2.

“Last year I lost early because I had not played enough after my injuries, so I am looking forward to coming back to Kuala Lumpur and hope to do better. Everyone was so nice to me before and I really appreciate this. It is always nice to go back to a tournament where you feel welcomed and comfortable,” Nishikori said in a statement.
