Mardy Fish wins 2011 US Open Series title

Top-ranked American tennis player Mardy Fish won the 2011 US Open Series title due to impressive results he amassed during the North American hardcourt season. With his fourth round victory over Richard Gasquet at the Cincinnati Masters 2011 on Thursday, he’s assured of the top ranking in the US Open Series standings even though there is still the Winston-Salem Open tournament next week.

It feels like a tournament win really,” said Fish of the victory.
“I think it’s the epitome of what the US Open Series is, and that it’s not just coming over and playing two events and the US Open. It’s grinding it out all summer and playing well throughout the summer,” he added.

Fish has reached three consecutive ATP finals so far, winning the Atlanta Tennis Championships and finishing runner-up in two tournaments (Farmers Classic and Rogers Cup). As of this writing, Fish is still in contention for the Cincinnati title, reaching the semifinals after beating world no. 2 Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals.
