2011 US Open: Defending champion Rafael Nadal fends off Andy Murray to reach final

Defending US Open champion Rafael Nadal held off world number four Andy Murray’s challenge to reach the US Open 2011 Men’s Singles final. After a third set hurdle, Nadal charged back in the fourth to close out the match 6-4, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. The Spaniard world number two will face top-ranked Novak Djokovic on Monday’s final – a replay of last year’s final.

Djokovic saved off two match points to win his epic semifinal match against Roger Federer, a scenario that was similar in last year’s semifinal where the Serbian world number one prevailed. Federer of Switzerland will end the season without a Grand Slam title – a first since 2002.
