The 2011 US Open Men’s Singles event will conclude on September 12, Monday with world number one Novak Djokovic facing defending champion Rafael Nadal. This is a rematch of last year’s final where Nadal prevailed. Djokovic narrowly won his semifinal match against Roger Federer, saving two match points before prevailing in five close sets. Meanwhile, Nadal swept past Andy Murray in the other semifinal in four sets.
Nadal leads the head-to-head match series at 16-12. However, Djokovic won all their five encounters so far this season – all in the finals in various surfaces (hardcourt, claycourt and grasscourt). Four of these matches are in Masters 1000 tournaments (Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, Rome) and one in Grand Slam final (Wimbledon 2011).
