The 2011 US Open Men’s Singles event is currently on the final stages and two semifinalists have been confirmed following their quarterfinal victories on Thursday night.
Novak Djokovic, the world number one, beat compatriot and good friend Janko Tipsarevic after the latter retired on the fourth set. The score was 7-6, 6-7, 6-0, 3-0. The Serbian star will next face Swiss maestro Roger Federer in the semifinals. Federer beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in straight sets 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. It can be remembered that Tsonga beat Federer at the Wimbledon 2011 quarterfinals while the latter led with two sets. The scenario was different this time with Federer making sure that Tsonga won’t make a comeback in the third set.
The Federer vs Djokovic US Open 2011 semifinal match will be an interesting one considering that Federer was the one who stopped Djokovic’s 43-match win streak last May at the French Open semifinals.
