Novak Djokovic sets ATP prize money record after US Open 2011 win

World number one Novak Djokovic has surpassed rivals Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in terms of prize money earned in a single season after winning his third major title of the year at the US Open 2011.

Prior to the US Open, Djokovic has already earned $8,309,318. After the title win, Djokovic received $1.8 million plus $500,000 US Open Series bonus. This brought his total prize money to about $10.6 million as of September 13, 2011.

Djokovic has compiled a 64-2 win-loss record so far this season. He is scheduled to attend more tournaments later this year, including the ATP World Tour Finals which means he can widen the gap of his prize money record in a single season against other players. Federer and Nadal have both earned about $10.2 million each in different seasons (Federer – 2007; Nadal – 2010).
