Novak Djokovic to miss four weeks due to injury
By Tennis Guru on Sep 19, 2011
World number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia won’t be able to compete in China Open and Shanghai Masters scheduled for early next month due to a rib injury that will sideline him from tennis action for at least a month.
Djokovic retired from his Davis Cup semifinal match against Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro on Sunday while trailing 6-7, 0-3. The retired propelled Argentina to a Davis Cup final showdown against Spain this December.
Djokovic is expected to lose 860 ranking points for failing to defend the China Open and his semifinal effort in Shanghai last year. However, this won’t affect his ranking as he currently leads no. 2 Rafael Nadal by more than 4,000 points.
