US Open 2011: Robin Soderling withdraws due to illness

Sixth-seeded Swede Robin Soderling withdrew from the 2011 US Open due to illness. Soderling was scheduled to face qualifier Louk Sorensen in the first round match on Wednesday. The withdrawal meant placing “Lucky Loser” Roger Dutra da Silva of Brazil to take over his spot.

According to Soderling’s agent, the Swede was not feeling well on Tuesday night and was suffering from headache and stomachache. A doctor recommended that he should not play.
Soderling had a limited playing time during the summer hardcourt season due to wrist injury. He pulled out of Montreal Masters due to the aforementioned injury.

The two-time French Open runner-up was a US Open quarterfinalist last year.
