US Open 2011: Serena Williams beats Ana Ivanovic to reach quarterfinals

Serena Williams reached the quarterfinals of the 2011 US Open after beating Serbia’s Ana Ivanovic. It was a battle of former world number one players and previous Grand Slam winners. However, it was evident that Williams has the better game against Ivanovic. The score was 6-3, 6-4.

Williams, a three-time US Open champion, has made herself a strong contender at the US Open after winning two hardcourt tournaments and eventually winning the US Open Series 2011 title. Lack of match play pushed her ranking down to 175th but she’s currently ranked 29th and seeded 28th in New York.
Williams will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia in the quarterfinals.
