Janko Tipsarevic captures first ATP title in Kuala Lumpur

Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia won his first career ATP Tour title when he beat Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus 6-4, 7-5 on Sunday’s final of the Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur 2011.

“It feels great. I think I deserved it,” said Tipsarevic.

“I’m so happy that it came in a good place, at a tournament that is really, really nice, and against a good player. Marcos Baghdatis has played in 11 finals and was a former Top 10 player, a Grand Slam finalist. So I feel happy that I won against a great player in a final that I hope kept the fans on the edge of their seats until the very end. I could not be happier,” he added.
Tipsarevic was the only player in the world’s top 20 this year to not have won an ATP tour title. However, he did have four runner-up finishes in the past.

The world no. 17 gets $155,000 and 250 ranking points.
