Venus Williams plans a full comeback in 2012

Seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams said that she’s currently trying out a new diet regimen following the autoimmune disease that kep her mostly out of tennis tournaments this year. She’s optimistic that the new approach will place her back at the top of the WTA tour rankings.

Williams is currently in Doha, Qatar for sporting congress and exhibition where she’ll be one of the event speakers.

“I changed my diet completely, so lots of vegetables,” Williams said.
“I (altered) my mind frame completely because I was the person who always ate their steak first and their salad second,” she added.

The former top-ranked player had to pull out of the US Open tournament last September after she was diagnosed with Sjogren’s Syndrome. She’s currently ranked out of the world’s top 100 due to inactivity.

“My goal next year is to play a full schedule. It will take some work to get there, but I’m no stranger to hard work,” she said.

“I love the game. The racket feels right in my hand and I’m planning on going right back to where I was at the top of the rankings in the singles and doubles sometime within the next 12 months,” she added.

It has been confirmed that Williams will start her 2012 season at a tournament in Auckland, New Zealand.
