Brisbane International 2012: Andy Murray captures 22nd title

World number four Andy Murray earned his 22nd ATP World Tour title on Sunday by beating Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine 6-1, 6-3 at the Brisbane International tournament.

Murray received $74,370 plus 250 ranking points for winning the title while Dolgopolov got $39,165 and 150 ranking points.

“I served pretty well again. It got close in the second set and I stayed focused. He was just going for his shots [and] hit quite a few winners but I didn’t let it get to me,” Murray said.

“It’s good because I could easily have lost second round against [Gilles] Muller but I managed to fight my way through and played three very good matches. I felt like I was moving well right at the end of the week,” he added.

Murray is aiming to win his first career Grand Slam title and the Australian Open 2012, which begins on January 16, could serve as a perfect chance for him to finally realize this dream. He recently hired eight-time Grand Slam champion Ivan Lendl as his coach. He reached the Australian Open final in the past two years.
